if I insert links like <a href="callto://+xxxxxxxxxxxx"><img... /></a> into my web site (not just static but using dom manipolation, anyway doesn't matter for now), skype needs skypeCheck.js to launch skype.exe. I saw that uses a flash .swf and I was wondering how I can bypass this procedure in order to permit ipads and stuff like that to work without flash.
Thanks so much,

The best option would be to change the URL entirely. callto:// is generic if you use skype:<insert number>?call then the system will treat this as a link and open Skype, if its installed on the iPad.
This is a straight link it doesnt use flash or any other addons.
Let me know if I am missing something?

Thanks for your advise, I'll try it out on ipad but for now I already simulated it by adding Flashblock as browser plugin and it works, so you're right.
I was thinking that skype's detection_as3.swf (called by skypeCheck.js) was needed and could generate some sort of problems/errors at any level in no flash devices. Misunderstood.
